Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Aux Genavrières, Domaine Lignier Michelot
Vintage 2023

Score: BH94
A strikingly elegant and beautifully layered nose speaks of cassis, dark cherry, crushed anise and an equally broad array of floral nuances. There is slightly better concentration and certainly more refinement to the delicious medium weight flavors that coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the firm tannic spine shaping the solidly powerful and beautifully long finale. The Faconnières is indeed excellent but this is a clear step up in both quality and class. *Outstanding*

| Producer Info | Domaine Lignier-Michelot possesses an impressive spread of remarkable vineyards spread across Morey Saint-Denis — over half of which are classified premier or grand cru — as well as choice parcels in Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine is noted by Tim Atkin as “a refined, beautifully understated range from Virgile Lignier”. No pesticides or herbicides are used in the vineyard and low yields are maintained through vigilant green pruning. Grapes are completely destemmed and undergo a five-day cold maceration, followed by a naturally occurring fermentation. “Lignier-Michelot is a domaine you should seek out”, says Neal Martin. |
