Alkina Polygon No. 3 Grenache, Barossa Valley
Vintage 2022
750 ML
HK$1,180.00
Score: JH97
Grenache sourced from the limestone and schist soils of Polygon No. 3 on Alkina’s Greenock estate; 70% whole bunches, raised in unlined concrete tulip and egg. We’re seeing the 2022 Polygon wines before the 2021s are released, the Alkina team holding them back for another year’s rest. As is the norm, No. 3 is nuanced and filigreed, exuding calm yet bristling with energy, with an undercurrent of minerality. It’s airy red fruits and layers of spice and amaro shift constantly, revealing a chalky, fine-honed path across the palate. There is a wonderful transparency in these wines.

“ALKINA” is an Indigenous Australian girl’s name meaning “Moon” or “Moonlight”. This name embodies the respect for the land and the many forces of nature that the estate works with to bring life, energy and authenticity to their wines. Ancient stones and soils, organic and biodynamic viticulture, small scale winemaking and the creation of unique micro-terroir wines, grown and made on the estate in the Western Barossa ranges of the Barossa Valley. The wines are certified organic and biodynamic. They focus on the heritage varieties that have found their natural home in the region, from vines dating back to the 1950’s. Alkina only uses indigenous yeast for ferments, and high levels of whole bunches are used in ferments, which helps to express character, as well as build complexity and savoury interest. The Polygons are the pinnacle of the range, that represent different micro ‘Grand Cru’ terroirs within their vineyards. These are available in extremely limited quantities. |
