Barolo Bussia, Giacomo Fenocchio
Vintage 2016
750 ML
HK$428.00
Score: AG95
The 2016 Barolo Bussia is a wine of tremendous character and complexity. Menthol, lavender, black cherry, graphite, cloves and leather all open up in the glass. Virile and layered, with tons of depth, the 2016 Bussia has so much to offer. A few years in the cellar will help the tannins soften, but the 2016 is already quite expressive. It is also one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Fenocchio. 2026-2041

| Producer Info | With vineyards in the heart of the Barolo production zone, the Fenocchio estate has produced wines for over five generations. Today this incredible winery is led by the Fenocchio brothers Albino and Claudio. The estate has proprietary vineyards located in three different areas: Bussia in Monforte d’Alba, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, and Cannubi in Barolo. All are historic “grand cru” vineyards and are recognised as such with microclimates which give the potential to produce wines of exceptional character and personality.
The production philosophy that distinguishes this historic Piedmont company is remaining true to the traditional family style, made of hard work in the vineyards and winemaking with long use for the maturation of large barrels in the cellar. Claudio explains the philosophy behind the production of these pearls of Piedmont wine: “Our wines are left five months in stainless steel vats and two years in large capacity oak casks and aged in the bottle for one year. The passage of time will give complex and intriguing aromas, for palates ready to seize the pleasure of never predictable aspects.” Advances in winemaking technology have enabled them to mechanise operations and work with greater assurance and rigorous quality control both in the vineyard and in the cellars. The resulting wines are surprisingly approachable when young but will benefit from extended cellaring. |
