Even finer and more nuanced than their Viña Pedrosa, the 2012 Pérez Pascuas Gran Selección Gran Reserva is a monumental, classical Ribera del Duero, still young and lively, a little closed on the nose but showing magnificent harmony on the palate, with super refined tannins. It’s gobsmacking. It’s pure Tinto Fino from an 83-year-old vineyard that yielded 18 hectoliters per hectare, yet the wine is not too concentrated or tannic and was polished by 26 months in French oak barrels. 6,270 bottles were filled in March 2015. You can drink it now or forget it in your cellar for a decade.

Viña Pedrosa’s story is closely intertwined with the terroir and their passion for wine. As a world-renowned venture now, Viña Pedrosa involves two generations of enthusiastic wine connoisseurs. Their 120 hectares of vineyards are the story of a conquest and the foundations of a winemaking dream that has drawn on their ancestors’ wisdom. Their eighty-year-old Tinto Fino vineyard in Pedrosa de Duero in the Spanish province of Burgos unites tradition and respect for the land to strike a perfect natural balance. They believe in high quality winemaking that is in keeping with the times and ensures conservation of the ecosystem.

Tim Atkin, the prestigious Master of Wine, has recognized Mr Daniel Pérez Herrero, the third generation of the Pérez Pascuas family and the Director of Viticulture and Agronomic Projects of Viña Pedrosa, as Viticulturist of the year 2021, and awarded him the Medal of Excellence.
