I like the spice and tar character with ripe fruit and hints of stones. Full body, black pepper and cloves. Rich and flavorful. No wood. Drink now.

Producer Info Howard’s Folly is a boutique producer of wine from Portugal, based in the beautiful and historic town of Estremoz, the Alentejo region. Their main vineyard is 7 hectares of 20-25 year old vines in Portalegre, deep in the Alentejo countryside, where the climate is cooler. This allows Howard’s Folly to make wines with superior freshness, elegance and finesse.

There are 342 different grape varieties permitted in Portugal of which 250 are indigenous. Howard’s Folly uses local varietals either blended or occasionally on their own. An innovative partnership between Chief Winemaker, David Baverstock, and entrepreneur, Howard Bilton, and their joint passion to unlock the best of Portugal’s grape varietals, have resulted in consistent production of award winning wines.

The co-founder and chief winemaker, David Baverstock, is an Australian by nationality but long time Portuguese resident who is credited with revolutionizing the Portuguese wine industry by introducing new world techniques to old world material. He has won the Portuguese Red Wine Trophy at both the 1999 and 2002 International Wine Challenges, as well as winemaker of the year (Portugal) in 2013 and 2015, the only non Portuguese winemaker to do so.
